BAE Systems’ Geospatial eXploitation Products (GXP) division is a global provider of software for image analysis, geospatial analysis and photogrammetry, developed to benefit defense and commercial users. BAE Systems’ commercial solutions offer customers the most comprehensive production software and mapping products in the industry. It’s well established SOCET SET® software is widely used for precision photogrammetry, geospatial analysis, and mapping, with powerful functionality for triangulation, DEM extraction, orthorectification, mosaicking, feature collection and visualization. The software is renowned for its unequalled depth, performance, and ability to ingest data from numerous government and commercial image sources. SOCET SET add-on modules include SOCET for ArcGIS®, ClearFlite®, BINGO, and Next Generation Automatic Terrain Extraction (NGATE), the new licensed product used to generate a DTM automatically.

In keeping with BAE Systems’ vision that a wide range of analysis tasks are merging into a single market requiring a single product, SOCET SET’s photogrammetric strength is being integrated into a single, end-to-end software package, SOCET GXP®, which gives users increased flexibility, accuracy and efficiency with the same appearance, performance and user experience on UNIX® and Windows®. The SOCET GXP architecture is scalable and highly configurable so that customers can buy specific functionality for their requirements. With SOCET GXP, while a particular organization may have several configurations or software bundles in place, all of the software functions with the same underlying architecture and user interface.

Although a majority of its software resources are devoted to this enormous project, considerable efforts are in place to enhance SOCET GXP, to accommodate extensive new requirements that customers request. While the world’s geopolitical issues bring pressure to bear on customers, they look to BAE Systems to facilitate their image analysis work. In addition to improvements in areas such as import and sensor modeling for new sensors, and the addition of MIL STD 2525 graphics, GXP is creating an impressive new feature for SOCET GXP — a direct bidirectional link to the ESRI Geodatabase, which enables users to collect and update features and graphics in the market-leading GIS, dramatically improving both change detection and the ease of communication with other customer groups.

SOCET GXP’s underlying photogrammetric architecture is complete, and there is an aggressive path outlined to full integration, moving the remainder of SOCET SET’s full functionality into SOCET GXP. The end result will be well worth the investment. SOCET GXP and SOCET SET are suitable for use as development platforms, enabling customers and systems integrators to create complex government off-the-shelf and commercial solutions for specific programs and missions.
