100,000 buy Tamiflu in one week

08 May 2009

In the past week alone, over 100,000 people and businesses have purchased courses of Tamiflu medication whilst thousands of others have taken out protections plans, according to Healthcare Connections, the UK's largest independent supplier of the anti-viral

As 28 cases are confirmed in the UK and five schools shut their doors to aid containment of the swine flu virus, the medical profession is now turning its attention to a likely second wave of the virus expected this winter.

Government Health Minister Alan Johnson has confirmed that they are now looking into a possible escalation of the virus, which could have devastating consequences.

In light of this, Healthcare Connections, a leading organisation on pandemic preparedness planning, are seeing people taking the safety of family, friends and colleagues into their own hands. Healthcare Connections has experienced unprecedented hits to its website www.easyfluprotection.co.uk

Co-founder Cecile Hiney, a mother of 3 young children says "For the last 5 years Healthcare Connections has worked with leading organisations on pandemic preparedness plans to ensure business continuity in the event of workforces becoming ill such as HSBC and the Daily Mail. We have recently extended our offering to consumers who can call us if they are worried about what a pandemic could mean for them and their family'.

Consumers are urged to exercise caution when buying medication privately and to ensure they are using a trustworthy source. Healthcare Connections is the largest independent supplier of Tamiflu medication after the Government (850,000 packs of anti-viral medication) and is accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Dr Brian McGirr, chief medical adviser says: "Given the speed, scale and potential mortality rates of the virus, inevitably people will be concerned.  It is vital for anybody who is worried to be informed about what practical steps they can take to protect themselves, their families and their businesses and which bona fide organisations they should contact".

Healthcare Connections also offers a consumer careline (tel. no 08456 773005) to manage all consumer enquiries.
