74 oil rigs adopt SteelEye IT protection

18 June 2009

National Oilwell Varco has implemented SteelEye's Protection Suite, a business continuity and disaster recovery system, to ensure availability of the company's Falcon System

The Falcon System is the world's largest system integrating information flow and monitoring with oil drilling processes.

With the support of local SteelEye partner Nordicmind, the SteelEye implementation ensures the availability of the Falcon System's 148 Window servers and applications across 74 oil rigs in the Indian Ocean to prevent against significant financial and productivity losses in the event of sudden system failure or interruption.

According to Marko Lehtimaki, director of business development for Nordicmind, similar Falcon Systems are also planned for the protection of oil rigs in the North Sea.
