Axell Wireless goes underground in China

26 May 2010

The underground train (metro) networks in Beijing, Guangzhou and Nanjing will be supported by a public safety system deployed by the British wireless coverage specialist, Axell Wireless

Working with individual systems integrators in the Chinese market, Axell Wireless has secured contracts to deploy terrestrial trunked radio (TETRA) repeaters. The repeaters will ensure that high quality wireless coverage for mobile communications and public safety services is maintained on each of the three metro networks.

Axell Wireless' expansion in the Chinese market with these three TETRA developments is part of a period of rapid development of the company as it continues to grow across the Asia-Pacific region. A pioneer and world leader in TETRA repeater technologies, Axell Wireless delivered the first ever TETRA repeater in 1997. Its products now ensure wireless coverage for commercial and public safety services for in-building and transport networks all over the world.

Axell Wireless' international business successes are highlighted by its 70 percent export rate. This significant achievement was recognised with a Queen's Award for Enterprise, the UK's most prestigious award for business, in 2009. On the 31st of March, 2010, HRH the Duke of Gloucester presented the award to Ian Brown, CEO at Axell Wireless, at the company's headquarters and manufacturing facility in Chesham, Buckinghamshire.

Ian Brown said: "China's cities are growing at a rapid pace as is the transport infrastructure required to support that development. Through the deployment of our TETRA technologies, we are helping to ensure the safety and security of passengers on three of the country's largest metro networks. These installations are being conducted with three distinct systems integrators, and all three came to the view that Axell Wireless was best placed to meet the demands of a metro network environment. We are very pleased that these companies based in China as well as many others all over the globe are consistently selecting wireless coverage products designed and built in Britain."

Axell Wireless has a number of strategic partners in the region and has been working closely with these to supply TETRA repeaters to support public safety networks on the Beijing Metro Line M15, the Guangzhou Metro Line 3 extension and APM line, and the Nanjing Metro Line 1 extension.

Axell Wireless is recognized as a market leader in TETRA and is committed to maintaining that leadership through continuous improvement and innovation. Most recently Axell Wireless introduced the world's first TETRA digital repeater based on software defined radio (SDR) technology, which enables new wireless features and capabilities to be added to existing radio systems through software upgrades rather than installing new hardware.
