BP's Hayward to go?

26 July 2010

The resignation of BP's Tony Hayward has been so widely leaked to the media by, presumeably, BP's PR department that it will come as a shock if the beleagured company's board doesn't make an announcement soon

It's difficult not to feel sympathy for Hayward. The wrong man for a major crisis, he has been pilloried by the media, which constantly fails to point out that it was BP's sub-contractors who should bear the brunt of the blame. Yes, BP is also culpable, but to treat them as the sole culprit is just plain daft. Once again the mainstream media is out of step with the opinon of most people who take a more measured view.
