Bayer launches Hygard blast mitigation

10 September 2012

With ever-increasing threats and always-decreasing budgets in mind, Bayer MaterialScience has developed a new innovative blast-mitigating system for critical buildings and other structures that can be tailored to protect against a range of threat levels.

The Hygard polycarbonate laminate system can be added to existing buildings to avoid the high costs of relocating or building new, more secure structures.

The system combines the aesthetics and impact resistance of Hygard EX1750 polycarbonate laminate panels with a high-strength, energy-absorbing steel mounting structure. The system can protect and provide a decorative appearance to new and existing (retrofit) buildings, allowing most buildings to be upgraded to higher blast protection levels than previously possible. In particular, the system is ideal for buildings in urban settings where standoff distance is greatly diminished.
