Confusion over managing flood risk
31 January 2012
A report issued today by MPs says not enough money may not have been set aside on flood protection and there is widespread confusion over which government department is in charge of managing flood risk
The Public Accounts Committee chairman, Margeret Hodge, said: "It is unclear where the buck stops and who is ultimately responsible for managing the risk of flooding".
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs had told MPs it was "not ultimately answerable" and shared responsibility with the Environment Agency and local bodies, she added.
