Dutch gamble 10 million euros on crisis response

30 January 2007

The Dutch government has awarded 10 million euros for research into gaming for training and crisis response

According to Dutch research organisation, TNO, the Netherlands is set to become one of the leading international players in the field of game research. In 2006 the Dutch government allocated 10 million euros from the FES to the research programme GATE (Game Research for Training and Entertainment). TNO is one of the three partners in the Center for Advanced Gaming and Simulation. TNO's research on gaming focuses on two aspects, namely the use of serious gaming for the purpose of training and crisis response (e.g. by the Ministry of Defence) and, secondly, the development of underlying technologies with a broader application that are very useful to game developers. Examples are GPS-based location services, presence and mobile group-communication services.www.tno.nl
