Ex-KGB agent buys The Indie

25 March 2010

The protracted sale of London's The Independent newspaper was finally completed today when ex-KGB agent, Alexander Lebedev, reached terms with the struggling newspaper's owners to take control of it for a nominal sum.

Independent News & Media, the Dublin-based owners of The Independent and its Sunday sister title, had been desperate for a sale as the two newspapers have been losing more than £1m a month, according to two people familiar with its accounts.
