First UK IT storage with biometric security

11 February 2008

A secure document and data storage facility on North Tyneside has become the first in the UK to adopt fingerprint entry biometric security to enhance protection of stored documents, files and media tapes.

Datastor Ltd has recently moved into a larger 1.8 acre site at Benton Square Industrial Estate with the capacity to store up to half a million boxes of documents. The new site boasts a state of the art temperature and humidity control system and a data storage strong room has been built.

Owner Shaun Turnbull turned to Newcastle upon Tyne based UK Biometrics Ltd for additional security to compliment the existing hardened steel key locks fitted to exterior doors and the data strong room.  With the biometric system in place, even if keys are lost or stolen, nobody can gain access to secure areas because the authorised persons fingerprint must be placed on a scanner to open the doors.
