Germany culls 165,000 ducks

German authorities have slaughtered a duck flock after the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus H5N1 was diagnosed on a duck-fattening farm in Bavaria
The avian influenza virus H5N1 has been confirmed on a duck-fattening farm with 169,857 animals in the German Federal State of Bavaria. After 4,000 ducks had already died of the virus, the national authorities destroyed the remaining flock of 165,857 animals as a matter of precaution on 26 August 2007. www.euractiv.com
