Hackers took over Alaskan air traffic control

08 May 2009

A new US FAA report warns that hackers will seriously harm US air traffic control unless measures are taken. Last August hackers took control over Alaskan air traffic

According to a new US FAA report: "Unless effective action is taken quickly, it is likely to be a matter of when, not if, ATC [air traffic control] systems encounter attacks that do serious harm to ATC operations"

A new FAA report about the safety of the U.S. air traffic control system says the system is vulnerable to serious cyber attack. The report details several recent security breaches that could have been used to sabotage mission-critical networks. One of the most serious attacks came last August, when hackers took control of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) computers in Alaska.
