Helen Alexander next CBI President
CBI President Martin Broughton today announced that Helen Alexander CBE, senior adviser to Bain Capital has been nominated for election as President of the CBI
Ms Alexander's nomination will go forward to the CBI's Annual General Meeting on 2 June for election as President. She is expected to serve as President for two years.
The President is a key voice for members of the CBI, playing an important part in the organisation's lobbying activity, meeting with ministers, promoting UK business internationally, chairing the CBI Board and taking the lead role in appointing the Director-General.The role is unpaid.
Martin Broughton, also chairman of British Airways plc, who will relinquish the role of CBI President after two and a half years, said: "Helen will make an excellent CBI President. As well as running a first class international business as Chief Executive of The Economist Group, she has extensive boardroom experience across a range of sectors, from Northern Foods and BT to Centrica and Rolls-Royce.
"That brings with it a real 'hands-on' understanding of the competitive and other pressures facing business today."
Helen was Chief Executive of The Economist Group for 11 years before stepping down in June 2008. She has operated at senior board level over many years for a broad range of FTSE 100 companies, currently serving as chair of the remuneration committees of both Rolls-Royce and Centrica.
