ME cyber war heats up

18 January 2012

Cyber attacks on Monday disrupted online access to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, El Al Airlines and some Israeli banks.

The cyber attacks followed shortly after a hacker posted the details of thousands of Israeli credit card holders and other personal information on the Internet.

While, at this stage, the cyber attacks appear to have only inconvenienced the targets, there is much concern in a country which prides itself on its cyber defences.

Following  cyber attacks on the Iranian nuclear programme, the ME cyber war seems to be getting hotter and the division between individual and state-sponsored attacks is becoming blurred.
