Middle East conference on natural diasters

Contingency planning experts from around the world will gather from 31 May to 2 June 2009 in Abu Dhabi at a conference organised by IQPC to discuss national diaster management plans

Across the MENA region in 2006, there were 27 natural disasters, with 537 people killed and 2,492,000 affected." (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Annual Report 2006).

 International Quality and Productivity Center (IQPC), the global provider of tailored, industry-driven conferences, will be addressing the strategies for implementing a unified and coherent national disaster management plan. Taking place in the United Arab Emirates, Disaster Management and Crisis Response Middle East 2009 is an exclusive two-day conference with an additional 1 day for interactive workshop sessions.

Global experts in the field of disaster management and crisis response will come together at the conference to share their professional knowledge and experience to address key issues including cross agency training and developing national disaster management plans.

This conference will draw on real-life case studies to determine the best methods for handling various disasters scenarios, from large-scale fires in populated areas to an oil spill in the Arabian Gulf.

Dr. Ajith George, Consultant Emergency Preparedness, Health Authority Abu Dhabi who is presenting a case-study at the conference on to how the emergency response teams handled an outbreak of legionella disease in the UK says, "successful Major Incident Management requires a coordinated multi agency response and this conference creates an opportunity for all stakeholders to network".

Dr. Jihad Awad, Acting Chief of Emergency Department, Mafraq Hospital said that, "the conference will be an excellent opportunity to learn from international experts in the field of disaster management as they share their extensive knowledge with the attendees of this event". Dr. Awad will also be presenting at the conference and he will focus on establishing the priorities of disaster management among emergency response teams.
