Police launch new counter-terrorism campaign

26 February 2008

The Metropolitan Police has launched a new public counter-terrorism campaign which will run in Greater London, Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire and the West Midlands for five weeks from Monday 25 February

The campaign urges people to trust their instincts and pass on information about any unusual activity or behaviour. Advertisements will run in newspapers, radio stations and on the Internet.

Peter Clarke, Specialist Operations Assistant Commissioner, said: "Terrorists will not succeed if suspicious activity is reported to the police. As people go about their normal day-to-day lives they may spot something which strikes them as suspicious.

"We want people to look out for the unusual - some activity or behaviour which strikes them as not quite right and out of place in their normal day to day lives. Terrorists live within our communities, making their plans whilst doing everything they can to blend in, and trying not to raise suspicions about their activities."

Suspicions can be reported to the confidential Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321.
