Raytheon demos tracker app for iPhone
Raytheon will demo for the first time to the civil communications market their new One Force Tracker iPhone application at this week's IWCE
One Force Tracker is an iPhone application that tracks friends and foes, shows their positions on live, real time maps and provides secure communications.
Raytheon Company has unveiled the first of a series of mission software applications specifically designed for Apple's products. Raytheon has developed intuitive situational awareness applications to leverage Apple's rapidly growing mobile content and technologies, such as a compass, global positioning system, accelerometer, 3G networks, Wi-Fi and a multitouch screen. Raytheon has also designed other innovations for the device, including disruptive-tolerant networking, content-centric networking and augmented reality, incorporating security guards for tactical operations.
"Raytheon's experience with mobile communications in the tactical environment and the government customers' need for low-power, simple plug-and-play applications led to the development of a real-time situational awareness application using Apple's touch technologies," said Dr. J Smart, chief technology officer of Raytheon's Intelligence and Information Systems business. "We are committed to providing innovative technology solutions for warfighters and all of our customers."
With the market explosion of the iPhone and the more than 100,000 applications available, Raytheon has leveraged its innovations to provide U.S. military forces with the best technological advantages. The company has seen demand for the same innovations in mobile devices rise with its military and civil customers.
"We have developed a situational awareness application based on military messaging standards that provide multimedia access, audio and textual point of interest, free text messaging, collaborative planning, spot reports and emergency call for fire," said Tushar Patel, director of Advanced Programs and Technology at Raytheon's Network Centric Systems. "Raytheon is a leader in secured wireless networking. Combining that with Apple's expertise allows us to provide rapid, low-risk and affordable interoperable system solutions."
Raytheon will work closely with Apple to deliver these and other powerful capabilities to customers in the coming months.
