Renewable energy largest part of CleanTech sector
According to Venture Business Research, renewable energy is the largest sub-sector in the CleanTech sector, representing over 30% of CleanTech businesses financed since 2002.
Within renewable energy, 37% are solar businesses, 34% are involved in biofuel production and a further 16% in wind power. Other significant CleanTech sub-sectors include Advanced Materials and Technologies and Energy Efficiency, which each represent 17% of the market.
In Q3 2007 total investment in private CleanTech companies almost reached $2.3 billion - up 40% on the previous quarter and returning to investment levels recorded during Q1 2007.
Total Investment in private CleanTech companies during the first three quarters of 2007 was approximately $6.1 billion. Although investment in private CleanTech companies remains strong there are signs that the pace of investment is beginning to slow. This contrasts starkly with the Security and Defense sector, which has registered quarter-on-quarter growth over the last twelve months.
