
Scottish 999 calls records lost
Following the news that the Scottish Ambulance Service has admitted a package containing the details of 894,629 emergency calls has been lost, information security specialists, Workshare, has called for the introduction of US style data breach notification legislation
Workshare's Brian Spector said: "Despite assurances from the health secretary that the lost disc is fully encrypted and contains no private medical records, this loss of data is of huge concern to many people. Unless the government is able to reassure the public that steps will be taken to prevent such an incident occurring again, confidence in its ability to protect sensitive data will hit an all time low.
"The public has a right to know about data breaches as soon as they occur, regardless of whether security procedures have been followed or not. The fact the Scottish Government delayed announcing this latest data blunder for two weeks will add fuel to the debate surrounding the need to introduce
