Serco wins $62m anti-terrorism contract

24 August 2007

Serco Inc. has won a three-year, $62 million contract from the US Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center to design and deploy advanced anti-terrorism systems for ships, Navy ports and other unspecified federal facilities

The new Naval Electronic Surveillance Systems contract could be worth as much as $115 million if all five of the six-month options are exercised, Serco said.

Under the award, Serco will provide engineering, technical, logistical and management services for a range of government agencies. The award is an extension of a separate, $63.9 million port security contract awarded to Serco in April. That contract called for providing engineering and installation services for command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems at ship, shore and submarine locations on the West Coast, including San Diego; Bremerton, Wash.; Everett, Wash.; and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

On the basis of the contracts, SPAWAR of San Diego will establish more effective and efficient communications among federal, state and local government agencies and improve their ability to respond collectively to terrorism threats, Serco said.

Serco Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection services are being deployed by several Navy agencies including the Program Executive Offices, Commander Naval Installation Command and Naval Intelligence Command.

Serco Inc., of Vienna, Va., is part of Serco Group, a global services company
