Shanghai port anti terrorist exercise
China's Ministry of Communications (MOC) and Shanghai Municipal Government conducted an anti-terrorist exercise starting on October 31 at 10 am in the city's Yangshan Deep-Water Port, one of the largest ports in the world
A container ship, two gunboats, two helicopters and 25 container trucks took part in the maneuver, regarded as the second largest port security drill since the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea was amended in 2004. The drill aimed to test the port's emergency system, said Zou Bin, Deputy Director of the Water Transport Department of the MOC.

More than 130 policemen joined in the exercise where around ten officers imitated a terrorist attack. The maneuver involved undermining a terrorist plan in which five "terrorists" snuck onto a container ship cruising to their target-country from the No.1 dock of the port, waiting to reinforce the rest of the terrorists at sea.
A gun battle started between the "suspects" and the police when the stowaways were discovered by the DKL LifeGuard and Carbon Dioxide Detecting Apparatus. Two "suspects" were injured and one was arrested in the "conflict."
A few minutes later, a small boat packed with dynamite rushed towards the dock from about 500 meters away in an attempt to blow up the port. Motorboats, gunboats, and helicopters cornered the sprinting boat, arrested a total of four "suspects," and unloaded the explosives. The security drill ended at 11:10 am, 25 minutes earlier than its original plan.
