Transport Police demonstrate counter terror equipment

04 September 2008

Officers from British Transport Police today demonstrated the range of specialist equipment they are trained to deploy in the event of a chemical, biological or radiological incident on the London Transport Network to Policing and Counter-Terrorism Minister Tony McNulty

The demonstration was given to Mr McNulty when he visited the British Transport Police (BTP) headquarters in Camden to meet Superintendent Phil Trendall and colleagues working in the Specialist Counter-Terrorism Response Unit. The unit attends suspect package reports throughout the London Transport Network and officers are also
trained to deal with "white powder" and any other chemical, biological or radiological related incidents.

Mr McNulty saw the range of equipment that is used by the unit, which the Government has contributed more than £2 million towards.
