UK inquiry to investigate allegations against intelligence agencies

On 6 July 2010, the Prime Minister, David Cameron, made a statement to the House on the Government's response to allegations about British complicity in the mistreatment of detainees

He announced the following:
* the establishment of a non-statutory inquiry which will examine whether, and if so to what extent, the UK Government and it's intelligence agencies were involved in improper treatment of detainees held by other Countries;
* the publication of consolidated guidance for intelligence and military personnel on engaging with detainees held by others;
* the Government's commitment to engage in mediation in the outstanding civil cases involving detainees;
* the publication of a Green Paper setting out the Government's initial proposals for how intelligence should be treated in judicial proceedings.
