UK terrorism threat level reduced
20 July 2009
The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) has changed the UK threat level from international terrorism from SEVERE to SUBSTANTIAL. The current threat level means that the threat of a terrorist attack remains a strong possibility and may occur without warning.
The Home Secretary said in a statement: "The change in the threat level to substantial does not mean the overall threat has gone away - there remains a real and serious threat against the United Kingdom and I would ask that the public remain vigilant."
