Voltage encrypts Lancashire NHS

19 January 2009

Voltage Security, a global leader in information encryption, has announced that Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has deployed Voltage SecureMail to protect sensitive information that may be contained in email messages

Unlike other government approaches to messaging security, Voltage SecureMail allows the Trust to encrypt both internal and external communication with a minimum amount of effort by users, administrators and management. As a result, the hospitals are able to protect patient data and comply with National Health Service (NHS) and other regulations, while keeping overall costs low.

"Deploying Voltage email encryption is a win-win situation for us: end users get an easy and straightforward experience and administrators don't have to manage encryption keys, software downloads or installation of files," stated Saeed Umar, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals' IT Project Manager.

According to Mr.Umar, four factors set the Voltage encryption solution apart from the competition:

1.      Flexibility: Lancashire Teaching Hospitals was able to configure the system's two levels of security to meet their needs. At the network gateway, confidential "trigger words" and patient identifiable information (PII) result in automatic encryption. On the individual level, users can encrypt messages as they see fit using the "Send Secure" button.

2.      Transparency: Thanks to Voltage's Zero Download Messenger (ZDM) technology, neither senders nor recipients are required to download and install any software. Users send email as they normally would, and email recipients also have the option of responding securely.

3.      Simplicity: Anyone can use Voltage SecureMail with no training required.

4.      Interoperability & Integration: The system can be coupled with any messaging appliance, spam filtering or anti-malware product, and it easily integrates within existing messaging infrastructure
