Organised crime. People smuggling. Drug importation. Who's protecting Australia's borders? Building on the highly successful inaugural event of 2009, the 2nd Annual Border Security Conference will be convened on the 29th and 30th April 2010 at the RACV Club, Melbourne, Victoria
The recent release of Australia's National Security Statement and the Border Security Review, has highlighted the need for a consistent, cohesive approach to national security.
The significant shift in policy and operations for border agencies, coupled with an increased media focus on the issue of people smuggling, has resulted in a fresh stream of criticism towards security at Australia's ports and airports.
Border Security agencies are now tasked with combating the infiltration of organised and serious crime groups at the border, preventing and responding to the recent surge in people smuggling, tackling the consistent challenge of illicit drug importations, improving communication and coordination between agencies, combating fraud and identity crime and improving security at ports and airports across Australia.
Building on the highly successful inaugural event of 2009, the 2nd Annual Border Security Conference will be convened on the 29th and 30th April 2010 at the RACV Club, Melbourne. The agenda will feature presentations from national and international experts on these crucial issues.
Among many others, the program will include presentations from Australian Customs & Border Protection Service, Australian Crime Commission, Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet and the Attorney General's Department. It will analyse current initiatives, draw key lessons from case studies, and initiate discussion to inform future operations and policies.
