
Wireless Internet hi-jacks double in UK
Cisco's annual study on IT security of remote workers finds that in the UK the number of people hijacking their neighbours' wireless internet connections has nearly doubled in the last year from 6 to 11%
The study, also conducted in 2006, surveys more than 2,000 remote workers and IT professionals from ten countries, including the UK, chosen to represent a diverse set of social and business cultures. The findings highlight a softening attitude from users to IT security threats.
Key findings from the survey include:
- In the UK the number of people hijacking their neighbours' wireless internet connections has nearly doubled in the last year (6-11%)
- The number of remote workers who feel the internet is safer has increased by 8%
- More than half of respondents (56%) believe their remote workers are becoming less diligent towards to security awareness
- Many remote workers admit to still opening suspicious emails and attachments - 48% in the UK, compared to 27% in the States
