GCC Anti-Trafficking & Border Control Summit

There is a rising awareness of the increase of smuggling and trafficking operations through the GCC, as a major logistics and transit hub connecting Europe, Asia and Africa. The rapid growth of ports and airports in the region has led to increased flow of cargo, and with it, an increase in illegal smuggling activities such as drugs, weapons, counterfeit goods and human trafficking, amongst other cross-border crimes. While it is important to retain business and tourist friendly environments, GCC authorities need to increase their efforts on combating these cross-border crimes by working together and working smarter. While not every single vehicle or boat entering the region can be scanned, authorities can combine the latest surveillance and detection technologies with information and intelligence sharing to ensure a comprehensive anti-trafficking strategy.
