Mass Fatalities Conference
Emergency planning for major disasters must consider the handling of mass fatalities. This is not a simple issue. Many needs must be met identification, storage, public health, forensic and pathological investigation, coroners inquests and post mortem examinations, facilities for families, and the requirements of different faiths. Such events also draw heavily on the resources and expertise of local authorities and the emergency services.
This conference will bring together practitioners, experts, and policy makers from the wide range of organisations, statutory bodies and professional bodies concerned with incidents of mass fatality.
The aim is twofold. Firstly, it is to build better mutual understanding of roles, responsibilities and legal requirements in this very complex area, sharing experience and lessons. Second and equally importantly, it is to stimulate the creation of a wide network of people that will develop and sustain this understanding, and facilitate mutual aid.
Who should attend? We invite coroners; emergency planning officers from local authorities, the emergency services, and the NHS; specialist medical practitioners and professionals; policy makers; and operational managers likely to be involved in the management of a mass fatality incident.
